Engagement with stakeholders demonstrates readiness and willingness to share and receive information towards a mutually beneficial relationship that results to productive action. The undertaking is vital to make decision-making inclusive through the participation of impacted individuals, groups and communities whose interests need to be understood, and queries and claims responded to.

Stakeholder Engagement

I carry out stakeholder engagement work. This includes stakeholder a) idenfitifcation, b) mapping, and c) analysis – three activities that are overlapping and iterative.

I approach stakeholder engagement as a combination of schemes that weave ethical and managerial rationales. The aim is for parties such as business staff on the one hand, and impacted
communities and associated interest groups on the other, to arrive at an open and honest exchange of knowledge and information.  The exchange would be a true 'engagement' as parties arrive at productive actions.

As every project I undertake has its own set of requirements, it is sometimes necessary for me to bring in other social scientists. My experience in the extractive industry, academia, and Government is well-complimented by other specialists who are based in the cross-cultural sector, Government, non-profit, and industry.

We have partnered/engaged with local communities in our work on risk assessment, training delivery (on environmental management), as well as program monitoring and evaluation. Through the years, we have gained the adeptness at examining the cultural, historical, social, political, and economic factors that shape and influence the convoluted webs of relationships among stakeholders. We have well-grounded experiences in research, capability-building program development, conflict resolution, and social impact assessment. These have honed our understanding  – both in depth and breadth – of networks, power relations, competitiveness, interests, and claims associated with development projects, large-scale or medium or 'small', whether proposed or ongoing.
